Roof Scaping
Having established how a complex structural space frame would float above the building, creating a series of obstacles and spaces invisaged as football training exercises, I set about shaping the roof itself.
Massing model of the interior spaces.
Roofscape models
The shape I had derived in the section above, taking inspiration from the traditional pitched roof synonymous with traditional uk stadium design. While dynamic as a two dimensional image, as a three dimensional model it is slightly underwhelming
Creating pitches in mulitple directions to create a more interesting shape three dimensionally. I was also looking to enclose the building to the east to border the A road and create a more open facade on the west where the site is adjacent to housing. This shape creates more inhabitable spaces on the roof where a roof garden or 'roof park' could be developed.
The third roofscape attempts to reduce the previous potentially too radical design into something more in keeping with Hulme's current built environment. The staggered arrangement of each pitch is a method to allow natural light to penetrate the building.
